Food Waste Fever

Every year in Hawaii, a quarter of our food supply is thrown away. This costs the state $1 billion, or roughly $700 per person. A 2017 studied estimated that for each restaurant meal served in America, half a pound of food is wasted. Food waste is not only financially costly, but also environmentally costly. When food is thrown out, it is also a waste of all the resources needed to produce our food: time, water, energy, labor, etc.. 

The bottom line is: we can do a better job of being stewards of our food supply. So how might we go about doing this? Our team believes in the power of education. By educating people on what the food waste problem is, its impact on the environment, and how we can manage food waste better, we are giving people the means necessary to enact change, no matter how small.

Our team is happy to introduce "Food Waste Fever," a creative solution to food waste and waste management education. As you play this game, it is our hope that you will learn something so that we might make better choices as individuals and as a community.

*** SOME IMPORTANT GAMEPLAY NOTES ***

Because we are not actual game developers, please be gracious on the quality of the gameplay and the game in general :) We're still learning! With that being said you may come across some bugs that keep you from progressing in the game. For example, you might not be able to get rid of item you are holding. If this happens:

Q = DROP CURRENT ITEM

Again, because this game is far from perfect. There are still some sequencing/logic bugs that occur. If you do not play the game in the following sequence you might get locked in a loop.  Our main priority in sharing this guide is that you will be able to learn about all of the interesting information the game as to offer :)

1) Visit the trash can with brown table scraps. Give that to the farmer.

2) Visit the trash can with green waste. Give that to the composter, the green-haired lady.

3) Visit the top right sous-chef. Give that item to the orange-haired humanitarian.

4) Visit the frier. Give that item to the man dressed in blue.
